Niels Bisp Rasmussen (born 9 September 1993) is a Danish professional football defender, who currently plays for the Danish 1st Division side Vejle Boldklub.
He began his career in Vinding SF, a little sports club in Vejle. He was spotted early by Vejle Boldklub and he moved to the club. In September 2008 he signed a three year contract with Vejle Boldklub.[1] He got his international debut with the Denmark under-16s in October 2008, and was called up for the under-17s in December that year, named team captain of both teams. He was awarded 2009 Danish under-17 Talent of the Year by the Danish Football Association.[2]
He has been on trial at several English Premiership clubs: Newcastle United F.C. in the summer 2008,[3] in the summer 2009 with Aston Villa F.C. and Fulham F.C.,[4] as well as Liverpool F.C..[5] Aston Villa and Fulham both offered him a contract from the start of 2010, but Rasmussen turned them down as he didn't feel mentally ready yet.[6] The French Ligue 1 team Lille OSC also showed interest in Rasmussen.[7] He made his debut in 2009 for the Vejle reserves in Danmarksserien.[6] He was an unused substitute for a number of first team matches, before signing a full-time contract with Vejle in May 2010, as he was promoted to the first-team squad for the 2010-11 Danish 1st Division season.[8]
